How to Use Custom Icons in Natuk
Download the .zip file or files and unzip them into Natuk's /pcx directory.
Copy the new .pcx files you wish to use over the custom .pcx file slots, which
are custom1.pcx through custom8.pcx. Now, when you start Natuk, on the
select icon screen (ctrl-I), the new icons should be there. You should
always keep the original file around in case you later overwrite the
custom .pcx by accident.
How to Use Custom Icons in TOD and POWS
Download the .zip file or files and unzip them into the game's /custom directory.
Now, when you start the game, on the select icon screen (ctrl-I), click
on the 'Custom Icon' prompt in the lower left. Type the filename of the .pcx file,
and it will appear as the last selectable icon.
How to Make Custom Icons
For Natuk, edit the custom1.pcx through custom8.pcx files that are in the /pcx
directory. Eight files is enough to give every party member a new look...
if you make more than eight, just rename files to get things organized.
Use any decent paint program to edit .pcx files. If the icon is for Natuk,
make sure that the file is opened, edited, and saved in 256-color mode. Icons
for TOD and POWS can be in either 256-color or 24-bit color modes. Otherwise, the
palette will get messed up, or the file will just crash the game.
Most other important info is on the custom.pcx files and the original files
below. Have fun, and don't forget to show off your work by sending it
to me!
Art to Modify
If you are artistically challenged, here are some of the original art
files to help you get started. Download them by right-clicking and
choosing "save as". Please do not use these files for any other game
besides Natuk. If you need art for your own game, contact Dave Gerry at
dave_gerry@hotmail.com and
ask for a price quote.
